Windows through Time

Mon Dec 10, 2007, 10:32 AM
From the catalogue of Voices, Ilango's Artspace, June 2007:

Time, has always been ever changing and paradoxically constant. And time has always stood testimony to history. The waxing and waning of the moon along with the changing tides, have witnessed many individual lives, clawing their way to freedom.

Human beings have also always shifted, moved and have evolved over the years. This does not necessarily mean that change has been pleasant or that it has been voluntary. Some lives have been shaped by events and occurances beyond individual control, however in a mass man-made scenario based on age old ideas of custom and tradition. Therefore the idea of a window.

With the passage of time, ideas about customs and traditions may change, but they are present in any society all the same. There have also been instances when people have refused to give up or give in and have broken through that tough, manacled window time and time again.

Madhu’s paintings depict the struggle of the individual against the majority, of new thought against age old beliefs, of the human spirit trying to break free out of windows in time.
